Gerontological Society of America Conference

IHA was well represented at the Gerontological Society of America Conference as faculty, staff and affiliates gathered in Seattle, November 13-16, for presentations and a symposium honoring Carroll Estes, PhD, FAAN, professor emerita and founding director of the Institute for Health & Aging and founder of the Emancipatory Sciences Laboratory. View the full list of conference sessions led by SON community members and affiliates.

California Commission on Aging's 50th Anniversary Celebration

In recognition of their research on healthy aging, several SON faculty members were invited to attend the California Commission on Aging's (CCoA) 50th Anniversary Celebration on June 26, 2024 in Sacramento. The event honored CCoA's ongoing commitment to advocacy for older adults. SON faculty members joined the festivities and had the opportunity to connect in person with colleagues from On Lok, Seniors First and Meals on Wheels, along with members of CCoA's executive leadership team.

Alzheimer's Association International Conference

Elena Portacolone, PhD, MBA, MPH, professor in the Institute for Health & Aging, hosted the Symposium on Living Alone with Cognitive Impairment as part of the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, July 28-August 1, 2024 in Philadelphia, PA.

UCSF Dementia Day

Kattia Suarez Vargas, BA, project policy analyst in the Institute for Health & Aging, presented a poster at UCSF Dementia Day, November 6, on the Mission Bay campus. Suarez Vargas' poster was titled "Impact of Dementia Training in Spanish for In-Home Supportive Service Caregivers."
